We see a great number of folks with headaches in our Yakima office, and Dr. Kroner has been able to provide relief for many of them. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that half of all adults have a problem with some manner of headache disorder, so this really isn’t surprising. One of the most typical types of headaches which our patients deal with is cervicogenic headache which, thankfully, chiropractic can often help.
A cervicogenic headache is one that stems from problems in the cervical spine. It can be thanks to an issue with either the spine itself (particularly, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it could be due to a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine produces compaction or aggravation of the spinal nerves, which can bring about headache pain.
How do you distinguish if the headache you are suffering from is a cervicogenic headache? Apart from obtaining a diagnosis from a healthcare expert, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or discomfort in your neck. This is occasionally coupled with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.
Because cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever issue is causing them is remedied, it is crucial to get treatment as opposed to just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an excellent solution, and one that can provide a considerable amount of headache pain relief.
In one study published in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, researchers followed 80 people who had frequent cervicogenic headaches. One-half were given chiropractic care and the other half underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was evaluated 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the most beneficial effects.
Specifically, this study revealed that chiropractic adjustments gave patients more significant pain relief and lessened the frequency of headaches that occurred. What's more, it also lessened the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
