Shoulder Pain and Auto Injury

Shoulder Pain is a common condition after an auto injury, and it's something that Dr. Kroner sees frequently in our Yakima office. Chiropractic care is a great way to treat shoulder pain. Let's look at how shoulder pain is caused by a crash and how Dr. Kroner can help you.

There are at least two different ways that you can get shoulder pain after an accident: by direct trauma to the shoulder joint or by referred pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by striking your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the impact, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end crash. With this type of injury, you'll usually be aware of the pain shortly after the crash.

More frequently, Dr. Kroner finds that shoulder or arm pain doesn't immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the cervical spine. Injured ligaments or muscles in your spine can pinch nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've worked with both types of shoulder pain in our Yakima office. This treatment involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and home exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

If you've been injured in a car crash and you're struggling with shoulder pain, Dr. Kroner is here to help. The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis to determine what's causing your pain and then we will determine an appropriate treatment plan of action.
